Die Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Medizinische Genetik nimmt als Fachgesellschaft eine führende Rolle in der medizinisch-genetischen und genomischen Patientenversorgung ein. Sie hat zum Ziel, die klinische Genetik, genetische Beratung und Labordiagnostik in der Schweiz zu fördern und die genetische und genomische Medizin in der Praxis weiterzuentwickeln.

Farewell to Dr.phil.II Franz Binkert
It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Franz Binkert. With him, the medical genetics community loses a deeply respected colleague, a dedicated scientist and laboratory diagnostician, and a person whose commitment has left a lasting mark on our field.
Franz Binkert devoted his professional life to the advancement of medical genetics, always placing the quality of diagnostics for patients and their families at the center of his work. He combined his expertise, particularly in cytogenetics, with genuine empathy, and his thoughtful, measured approach made him a trusted advisor to colleagues and a reassuring presence for those under his guidance.
He was a pioneer in research of cytogenetic mechanisms and development of pre-and postnatal diagnostic applications. He was particularly committed to professional education and quality in laboratory through his longstanding involvement as a member of the SGMG board, a coordinator of its quality commissions including the European representation, as well as the porte-parole of the FAMH expert commission. He played a key role in the recognition of the FAMH specialization in medical genetics. He contributed significantly to the training and mentoring of future specialists and to the continued development of high standards in our discipline. His dedication to teaching and his generosity in sharing knowledge have influenced many careers and will continue to resonate in our community.
Within the Swiss Society of Medical Genetics (SGMG), Franz Binkert was a valued and engaged member whose voice carried both wisdom and integrity. He contributed not only through his expertise but also through his collegial spirit and his unwavering commitment to collaboration.
Beyond his professional achievements, we will remember Franz Binkert as a warm, thoughtful, and principled person. He will be greatly missed.
Our heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

Facharztprüfung 2026 in Basel
Die mündlichen Facharztprüfungen zum Erlangen des Facharzttitels SIWF/IFSM für Medizinische Genetik finden am Donnerstag, 19. November und Freitag, 20. November 2026 in Basel statt. Die Anmeldefrist ist am 31. August 2026.
